Ingredients

1 loaf of challah bread, sliced thick

4 large eggs

1 cup whole milk

1 cup heavy cream

1 cup granulated sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup brown sugar (for topping)

Fresh berries and mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Prepare the Bread: Arrange the thick slices of challah bread in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, overlapping the pieces slightly.

Mix the Custard: In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until fully combined.

Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the bread slices, ensuring all the pieces are saturated. Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight, allowing the bread to soak up the custard.

Preheat and Prepare: The next morning, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Remove the plastic wrap and sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the top of the soaked bread.

Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-35 minutes, or until the top is golden and crispy, and the custard is set.

Finish with Brûlée: For that signature crème brûlée finish, switch the oven to broil, and broil for about 2-3 minutes, watching carefully to ensure the sugar caramelizes to a crispy golden crust.

Serve: Allow to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with fresh berries and mint leaves if desired. Enjoy your luxurious breakfast treat!
