Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon sugar

1 ½ cups warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons olive oil (optional for flavor)

1 teaspoon dried herbs (rosemary or thyme, optional)

Extra flour for dusting

Instructions

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and dried herbs (if using). Whisk together until well blended.

Add Wet Ingredients: Gradually pour in the warm water and olive oil. Stir the mixture with a wooden spoon or your hands until it forms a soft, sticky dough.

Knead the Dough: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Knead it gently for about 3-5 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic. If it's too sticky, sprinkle a bit more flour as needed.

Shape the Bread: Divide the dough into 2 or 3 equal portions depending on the size you want your bread loaves. Shape each portion into a round or oval loaf.

Prepare the Pan: Heat a large, heavy-bottomed skillet or pot over low to medium heat. Lightly grease the bottom with olive oil or use parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Cook the Bread: Place the shaped dough in the skillet. Cover with a lid and allow to cook for 15-20 minutes on low heat. Flip the bread carefully halfway through to ensure even cooking. Cook until both sides are golden brown and the bread is cooked through.

Check for Doneness: The bread should sound hollow when tapped on the bottom. If you have a kitchen thermometer, the internal temperature should reach about 190°F (88°C).

Cool & Serve: Remove the bread from the skillet and let it cool on a wire rack. Slice and serve warm with butter or your favorite spreads!
