Ingredients

For the Dough:

4 cups all-purpose flour

2 ¼ teaspoons (1 packet) active dry yeast

½ cup granulated sugar

1 teaspoon salt

½ cup whole milk, warmed

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

2 large eggs

For the Filling:

3 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced (preferably Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)

¾ cup brown sugar

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsalted butter, softened

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

½ cup unsalted butter, softened

4 cups powdered sugar

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 tablespoons milk (add more for desired consistency)

Instructions

Make the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Allow to sit for about 5 minutes until frothy. Then, add the melted butter, remaining sugar, salt, and eggs. Mix well.

Knead the Dough: Gradually add in the flour, mixing until a soft dough forms. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.

First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Prepare the Filling: In a medium bowl, combine diced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, softened butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until the apples are coated evenly.

Roll Out the Dough: After the dough has risen, punch it down and roll it out on a floured surface into a rectangle (about 16x12 inches).

Assemble the Rolls: Spread the apple filling evenly over the rolled dough. Starting from the longer side, tightly roll the dough into a log. Cut into 12 equal slices.

Second Rise: Place the slices in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish, cover, and let them rise again for 30 minutes.

Preheat the Oven: While the rolls are rising, preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Bake the Rolls: Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

Prepare the Cream Cheese Frosting: While the rolls are baking, beat together the softened cream cheese and butter in a bowl until smooth. Gradually add in the powdered sugar, vanilla, and milk, mixing until you achieve a creamy consistency.

Frost the Rolls: Once the rolls are done baking, remove them from the oven and allow them to cool for about 10 minutes. Generously spread the cream cheese frosting on top while the rolls are still warm.

Serve and Enjoy: Slice and serve warm, and enjoy the delightful combination of apple and cinnamon smothered in creamy frosting!
