Ingredients

4 slices of thick bread (preferably brioche or challah)

2 large eggs

1/2 cup whole milk

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

1 tablespoon cinnamon

2 tablespoons butter

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup maple syrup (for serving)

A pinch of salt

Fresh fruit (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Heat a non-stick skillet over medium heat and melt 1 tablespoon of butter.

Once the butter is melted and bubbling, sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the surface of the skillet. Allow it to dissolve and begin to bubble, creating a caramel-like surface.

Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, soaking both sides evenly but not saturated, then place them in the skillet over the melted brown sugar.

Cook for about 3-4 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and caramelized, then carefully flip and cook for another 3-4 minutes until both sides are beautifully caramelized.

Remove the French toast from the skillet and repeat with the remaining slices, adding more butter as needed.

Serve warm, drizzled with maple syrup and garnished with fresh fruit if desired.
