Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon instant yeast

1 teaspoon sugar

½ teaspoon salt

¾ cup plain yogurt (room temperature)

½ cup warm water (approximately 110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons olive oil (or melted ghee)

4 cloves garlic (minced)

2 tablespoons fresh cilantro (chopped)

2 tablespoons butter (melted, for brushing)

Optional: nigella seeds or sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

Prepare the Dough: In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, yeast, sugar, and salt. Mix well. Gradually add the yogurt and warm water, along with olive oil. Mix until the dough comes together.

Knead the Dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour as needed.

First Rise: Shape the dough into a ball and place it in a lightly oiled bowl, covering it with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until it doubles in size.

Prepare Garlic Mixture: While the dough is rising, mix together the minced garlic and chopped cilantro, setting it aside for later.

Shape the Naan: Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release the air. Divide it into 4-6 pieces (depending on your desired naan size). Roll each piece into a ball, then use a rolling pin to flatten each ball into an oval or circle approximately 1/4 inch thick.

Preheat the Cooking Surface: If using a tandoor, preheat it. For a stovetop method, heat a cast-iron skillet or non-stick pan over medium-high heat.

Cook the Naan: Place a rolled-out naan into the hot skillet. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until bubbles form on the surface, then flip it over, cooking for another 2-3 minutes. Brush the cooked side with melted butter and sprinkle some of the garlic-cilantro mixture over it. Optionally, sprinkle some nigella seeds or sesame seeds for extra flavor.

Repeat: Cook the remaining naan, repeating the process and keeping the cooked naan warm in a clean kitchen towel or in a low oven (around 200°F/93°C) while you finish the others.

Serve: Serve the naan warm, accompanied by your favorite curry or dip, and enjoy the authentic flavors!
