Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour

1 cup warm water (about 110°F/43°C)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon sugar

1 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoons active dry yeast

Instructions

In a small bowl, dissolve the sugar in warm water. Sprinkle the yeast over the top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center and add the yeast mixture along with the olive oil.

Mix with a wooden spoon or your hands until the dough starts to come together.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until it's smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it has doubled in size.

Once risen, punch down the dough to release the air and knead for an additional 2-3 minutes.

Shape the dough into your desired form - whether for pita, flatbreads, or pastries.

If making pita, roll out the dough into circles about 1/4 inch thick. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat and cook each circle for about 2 minutes per side or until puffed and lightly golden.

Let the bread cool on a wire rack before serving.

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes | Servings: Makes about 8-10 breads
